Teaching from the Inside Out

Let’s teach from the inside-out.

You begin with you. Who are you? I mean: who are you? Are you a morning person? A night person? A coffee person? A don’t-talk-to-me-until-8am person? Do you eat mango salad? Beets? Taco pizza? Do you play the ukulele? Do you have a good-luck charm? Do you doodle? Dream?

Tell me: what do you dream?

Tell me: what’s funny in your world? What do you find beautifully, poignantly absurd?

What’s real?

I believe in starting with my authentic self. I bring my true self to my planning desk, to staff meetings, and–most importantly– to my classroom.

I believe in starting with *you.” Start there, at that authentic, you place.

Teach from there.
